With an increasing incidence of identity theft, it is important to check your credit status.  Many suggested web addresses lead you to commercial services, involving a fee.  A completely free credit report is available on the Internet at https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp this site takes you through several pages to fill out and then allows you to print out the report immediately (prepare for more than a dozen pages).  You may also order a report mailed in a few weeks by phone at (877) 322-8228. You do not need to subscribe to a paid service to obtain the report.

An update from Sharon Kern, Legislative Chair and Vice-President:

On 10/13/2009 the report card of serious medical errors which occurred in NJ hospitals in 2007 was

published o the website of the NJ Department of Health and Senior Services. The report can be found

at www.nj.gov/health/hpr.  The NJ AARP strongly supported reporting requirements that identified s

pecific hospitals in addition to listing medical errors.

The Star Ledger reported that there were 9400 serious medical errors in 2007. They resulted in infections, blood clots and other conditions. The public can use this information to shop for the best hospital care.
